Around: places, posts and people

Around is a feed of places, not of strangers. Join your local government, your estate or your campus, and read what people there are saying today: is there light, is the road open, has the tanker come.

All 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory and all 774 local governments are here. A place can also sit inside one, such as an estate inside Eti-Osa. Every place is a city, an area, an estate or a campus.

• Open the directory, find your state, then your local government, and join. Leave any time.
• If nobody is in it yet, joining opens it.
• For somewhere smaller, propose it from the new place screen. A person reviews it.
• Reading needs no account.

Say something, or ask a question people who know the area can answer. Up to 2,000 characters and 4 pictures. You have 15 minutes to edit a post, and you can take it down any time.

People reply, mark what is useful, and repost to their own places. Replies are one level deep.

A story is a longer piece with a picture and a headline, about a place. It does not expire, so it is still there for the next person deciding whether to move to that street.

When a listing is published, it is announced once, in the place it is in.

A place can have moderators. They are members of the place, not Vallo staff. A moderator can:

• Hide a post while a person reviews it
• Welcome people and answer questions about the place
• Flag a listing or a profile to the Vallo team

A moderator cannot:

• Delete anybody's post, ever
• Remove a member from the place
• See anyone's bookings, payments or messages

You can apply to moderate a place you are in.

There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour on Vallo. If you post content that is abusive, threatening, hateful, sexually explicit, or that harasses another person, we will remove it and we will end your account. We act on every report within 24 hours. You agree not to post such content as a condition of using Vallo.

• The rules cover posts, comments, stories, profiles, listings and private messages.
• No abuse, threats, hate, sexual content, fraud, fake documents, impersonation, or another person’s address, phone number or bank details shared without their agreement.
• A post or a profile that carries an account number or a request for payment is held until a person reads it. Every payment for a deal happens inside Vallo. Never pay outside Vallo. A payment made outside Vallo is not covered.
• The person you report is never told who reported them.
